FAU Athletics Announces 2013-14 Men's Basketball Schedule
The Owls will open its season against Ave Maria University on Friday, Nov. 8. FAU will open the regular season on Monday, Nov. 11 with a game versus Saint Francis University at the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The Owls then will travel to historic Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., to face the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, Nov. 17. FAU will face Boston College as part of the 2K Sports Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and then will complete the tournament Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24 in Detroit when the Owls play Detroit, Stony Brook and Toledo universities.
UCF will come to the FAU Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 3, with Jacksonville University coming to the Boca Raton campus on Tuesday, Dec. 7. A three-game road swing to DePaul University, University of Maryland and Stetson University will take up the middle of December. The Owls will close out 2013 with a home game versus Elon University on Sunday, Dec. 22. FAU will open 2014 with a home game on New Year's Day against Warner University.
The team will open Conference USA play on the road, when they face Louisiana Tech on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. The Owls will host East Carolina University in their conference home opener on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014. Harvard University comes to town on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, making it FAU's final nonconference game of the regular season.
The regular season concludes on Saturday, March 6, 2014 with a home game against rival FIU.
FAU's Chloe Sell Named C-USA's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Florida Atlantic University's Chloe Sell was named Conference USA's Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week after her performance at the University of South Florida's Bulls Invitational on Sept. 6.
The sophomore was FAU's top female finisher, taking fourth place with a final time of 17:30.04 in the 5K. She led the women to a third place finish at the invitational tallying a team total of 68 points.
"This is a great example of how hard work can pay off. In the past 12 months she has come so far," said Alex Smolka, FAU's head cross country coach. "There is no substitute for hard work and this recognition is a testament of the tremendous effort Chloe has given to make sure she is a top competitor for FAU."
FAU's Price Named C-USA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer forward Ryan Price has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. The junior is FAU's first to be named a C-USA Player of the Week for soccer.
Price leads FAU in scoring following the team's two-home wins last week. The Owls defeated the FGCU Eagles on Wednesday night 3-2 in double overtime and the FIU Panthers 2-1 in their conference season opening match on Saturday night.
In Wednesday's game against FGCU, Price led FAU tallying three goals over 102 minutes of play, including the game-winning goal. FAU took an early lead as Price recorded an assisted goal with a low shot to the right side of the net in the fifth minute of play. In the 56th minute, FGCU's goalkeeper received a red card that allowed Price to score on a penalty kick building the Owls' lead to 2-0. The game went into double overtime as FGCU tied the match at two. Two minutes into the second overtime, Price beat FGCU's keeper recording a hat-trick to win the game.
Price now has four goals for the season and has been a critical asset to FAU's team which is now ranked in first-place for Conference-USA. The team's record is 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 for conference matches. Price sits in a three-way tie for first-place in the conference for total points, points per game, total goals and goals per game. He leads C-USA in game-winning goals.
Men's soccer will host Jacksonville University on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. followed by the University of North Florida on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.
